Matt Slinkard

Assistant Chief of Police, Converged Threat/Risk Protection & Investigations

Matt Slinkard began his career with Houston Police Department in 1994 and recently retired. In his career, he served in and commanded numerous divisions within the Field, Investigative, Support, and Special Operations. 

Notably, he provided leadership for the transition of forensic services to the Houston Forensic Science Center, clearing the city's DNA evidence backlog; served as the public safety chair and incident commander for high-profile special events such as the NCAA Final Four, COPA Soccer Tournaments, Super Bowl LI, and MLB World Series; and numerous natural disaster response operations, including Hurricane Harvey in 2017. 

His professional leadership background includes graduating from the FBI National Academy, Senior Management Institute of Police, Police Executive Leadership Institute and the National Executive Institute. Slinkard earned a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Management degree from Sam Houston State University.
