UT Housing Safety Forum Draws Crowd, Addresses Safety and Security Concerns

October 29, 2019

In October, The University of Texas Police at Houston (UT Police) partnered with UT Housing to host a Safety Forum to address residents’ security concerns. The forum took place at the UTHealth Children’s Development Center Clubhouse and followed National Night Out festivities, an annual community-building initiative that promotes police-community partnerships.

The Forum came about at the suggestion of UT Housing residents who raised concerns about the safety and security of where they live. The forum was well attended with approximately 50 people participating in a General Campus Safety presentation followed by a question and answer session.

Residents’ concerns centered on visitor management and the safety and security of property in the housing complex. Lieutenant Justin Taylor presented an overview of UT Police functions followed by Officer Manuel Leston who gave a General Campus Safety presentation.

The forum concluded with several questions from the audience, which included questions about what to do when you see a suspicious person, how to report security issues and how to get in touch with UT Police.
