UT Police Milestone: 10th Annual Awards Ceremony

March 24, 2022

Our lives and way of work continue to adapt to change due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but our mission, vision, and core values at UT Police remain. In May, our department will virtually celebrate our Awards Ceremony to coincide with National Police Week. Nominated by their peers, this year marks the 10th year of recognizing the achievements, acts of bravery and excellence of UT Police team members.

The keynote speaker for this year’s ceremony will be Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at MD Anderson Rosanna Morris, RN, who was named one of Modern Healthcare’s Top 25 Women Leaders – 2022. Morris has more than 25 years of leadership experience in clinical and hospital operations, planning and patient care. She brings clinical expertise and experience as a bachelor’s degree-prepared registered nurse combined with more than two decades of executive hospital leadership, including roles as a health system chief operating officer and chief nursing officer. With a Master of Business Administration, she has a track record for clinical excellence, patient safety and quality, and employee engagement.

An awards committee representing a cross-section of UT Police staff and including members of the Community Partnership Council (CPC) are appointed by the Chief of Police and are tasked with reviewing nominations in accordance to ODOP Policy 411. Nominations recommended for an award are then reviewed and approved first by the Chief of Police and then the UT System Director of Police. This year’s event is the second year where CPC members are participating as voting members.

In addition to commendation medals, other awards include Civilian Employee of the Year, Public Safety Officer of the Year, Telecommunicator of the Year, Investigator of the Year, Officer of the Year and Rookie Officer of the Year. The department also acknowledges teamwork contributions, higher education degrees earned, and civilian service awards.

This year’s event is the third held virtually due to COVID-19 precautions.
